Mrs. Slawson's class consists of students who are integrated into their regular classrooms, yet need extra academic or behavioral supports. Many groups of students come in and out of the resource room, room 214, throughout the day. Also, Mrs. Slawson travels to regular classrooms and assists the students within their rooms, or co-teaches.
OPEN THE GIFT A Poem by Mrs. Chris Slawson
Inside this box I sit Surrounded by four sides, like walls
First is the wall of stereotypes and unfair judgments
Second is the wall of expectations, set too high or low by everyone else but me
Third is the wall of language, doesn't make sense, need to understand
Fourth is the wall of social interaction, get stuck with the story inside my head
I struggle against special needs, to get out of this box
There is a special gift inside- the gift of me, my special talents
I feel, I laugh, I cry, I can understand, I can learn, I can be special
So take the time to unwrap me, bring me out and I'll show you
You'll be better for unwrapping me

Coach Seuss
I’m appointing Dr Seuss my new life-coach. Whenever I feel in need of some expert guidance, I’m going to eschew the myriad of authors of books that fill the self-help shelves and instead turn to Dr Seuss.
